HSL Machinery Safety Clinic provides project-specific advice
The Health and Safety Laboratory (HSL), an agency of the Health & Safety Executive (HSE), is now offering appointments at a Machinery Safety Clinic for anyone wishing to discuss specific machinery safety issues with an expert. Following an initial email or telephone enquiry to HSL, a client can book a fixed-price (195) consultation that covers 30 minutes of preparation work and an hour's face-to-face discussion and provision of advice. The HSL says its experts have a good working knowledge and understanding of machinery safety, gained through years of experience with advising on machinery safety and designing machinery.
Machinery safety is concerned with achieving the appropriate safety-related performance of machinery, whatever the complexity. Achieving this performance ensures that users are not exposed to unacceptable levels of risk, plus it can can help make machinery cost-effective, compliant with regulations and competitive.
The HSL's clinic is based at its site in Buxton, Derbyshire, and is primarily aimed at delegates attending one of the HSL's machinery safety training courses. Whereas the courses provide a good general perspective of machinery safety topics, the clinic can help answer more specific questions. However, the clinic is not open only to course delegates; clients are welcome to make a dedicated visit and can book more than one session at a time to make the trip more cost-effective. Alternatively, a consultant can travel to the client's site, subject to additional travel costs.
