Inductive position measurement for Industry 4.0 applications

Pepperl+Fuchs is launching the PMI F90 inductive positioning system that can precisely detect the absolute position of one actuator as well as the distance between two. Thanks to IO-Link technology, the system has comprehensive communication functionality and is equipped for Industry 4.0 applications.

Inductive position measurement for Industry 4.0 applications

This new PMI F90 inductive positioning system works with a patented multi-coil system. The absolute position of the actuator is precisely detected from the measuring signals of a single coil. In addition to sending the analogue position signal, switch points can also be defined. The sensor can detect two actuators as well as the distance between them, meaning that dynamic positioning tasks can be completed with only minimal measuring technology.

Continuous data flow is enabled thanks to the IO-Link interface, in particular for applications featuring Industry 4.0 (I4.0) architecture. Event logs, error messages, signal quality data, device status and operating hours can all be read directly by the IO-Link master.

The PMI F112 and PMI F166 sensors from this product family are available for confined areas and harsh environments. The compact design enables these sensors to be installed in tight spaces while the robust metal housing protects them from external influences.

All of the devices benefit form the usual advantages of the inductive measuring principle: non-contact, low-wear, maintenance-free, dirt-resistant, and resistance to interference. Most steel components or objects can be used as actuators, since the inductive system is not reliant on a magnetic actuator.

Key advantages of the PMI F90 inductive positioning system are:

  • Position detection independent of distance
  • Programmable measurement range and switching range
  • Measuring and switching functions in a single device
  • Parameters set via IO-Link
  • Versions for ATEX Zone 2/22
