Control engineers can learn about trends in industrial cyber security at the mGuard International Users Conference, presented by Phoenix Contact and Innominate. The event will be held 6-7 June at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown.
All pre-registered attendees will receive an mGuard SMART2 VPN (list price of $599) as a gift. Joe Weiss, an expert on control systems and electronic security of control systems, will present the keynote address. Weiss has more than 35 years' experience in the energy industry, including more than 14 years at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). There he led the Nuclear Plant Instrumentation and Diagnostics Program, the Fossil Plant Instrumentation & Controls Program, the Y2K Embedded Systems Program, and the cyber security for digital control systems.
Attendees will also hear success stories and lessons learned from users of the FL mGuard products. They will also learn best practices in supporting remote locations, protecting their network and control equipment, and industrial PC integrity monitoring. Cost for the conference is $500, which covers accommodations and all meals, including dinner at the historic Moshulu floating restaurant on Penn's Landing.
Dan Schaffer, industrial network security specialist for Phoenix Contact, says: "For many years, control engineers thought they had "security by obscurity'. That is, that industrial networks were too complex and outside the mainstream to be a target. But with the discovery of Stuxnet and other recent industrial threats, the control community has realised that they need to take an active role in securing the network. This conference is a chance for control engineers and IT professionals to get together and talk about steps they can take to ensure the security and the integrity of their industrial networks."
