Industrial pressure switch incorporates transducer and display
Sick (UK) is launching the PBS industrial pressure switch that combines the functionality of a pressure switch, a pressure transducer and display in a single cost-effective, easy-to-use package.
Darren Pratt, an instrumentation product specialist for Sick (UK), comments: "The PBS pressure switch is very easy to install, making it a plug-and-play solution. It also has the advanced functionality to integrate with modern plant supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and network communications.
"The new PBS is exceptionally adaptable and lends itself to virtually any plant configuration, without compromising on cable position, visibility or leak integrity, making it ideal for retrofitting as well as new plant. Suitable for general, non-hygienic applications, it complements our new PHT hygienic pressure sensor, introduced in 2009."
Highly versatile, the PBS is suitable for absolute, gauge and vacuum/compound pressure applications, with a wide choice of pressure ranges from 0-1 up to 0-600bar. The robust construction includes a hermetically sealed welded stainless steel membrane over the sensing element, which eliminates the need for leakage-prone internal seals.
Communications
The PBS can be easily configured using three pushbuttons and an integral LED display, or remotely from fieldbus networks via IO-Link for some models. Configuration is said to be rapid and intuitive, and does not require extensive menu searching. The two digital switch outputs (NPN or PNP) are configurable for monitoring over- or under-pressure, and a 0-10V or 4-20mA analogue pressure signal output is also available.
To ensure easy reading and configuration in virtually any plant situation, the PBS housing and display have been designed to be rotated up to 330deg, which permits installation without disturbing the cable loom, and reduces errors in reading the display.
Sick's PBS boasts a wide choice of process connections to eliminate the need for costly adaptors and potential leakage points. Electrical connection is via an industry-standard M12, four- or five-pin stainless steel connector, providing sealing to IP67.
