Infrared Temperature Sensors with USB Interface

Calex Electronics have announced three new additions to the Convir TL series of fixed-mount infrared temperature sensors. The new TL-TI models offer a USB interface for easy configuration and data logging via a PC. This new USB interface is available on the TL-TI14-09, TL-TI5-12 and TL-TI4-10 models.

Through the USB interface and AT-301U software the temperature range, emissivity value and response time of these sensors can be configured to meet the requirements of individual applications. This software can provide a real-time display of not only the current temperature measurement of the TL-TI sensor, but also the maximum, minimum and average readings. The AT-301U software also has a graph plotting function, and can save and export measurements as a text file.

The TL-TI14-09 operates at wavelengths of 8 to 14µm and can measure temperatures from -32 to 900ºC. This model offers a choice of close focus optics with measurement spot sizes down to just 2mm diameter at a distance of 100mm.

The TL-TI5-12 is a pyrometer with a narrow 5.14µm spectral response, and is designed for use in the glass industry. By operating at this wavelength it is able to measure a short distance into the surface of glass, which helps to cut out surface reflections that can otherwise affect temperature readings. This model offers a temperature range from 100 to 1200ºC to allow it to cover most applications in glass manufacture, and also offers a selection of close focus optics.

The TL-TI4-10 has a 3.9µm spectral response and a wide 100 to 1000ºC temperature range, allowing it to address many applications. This specially selected wavelength allows it to measure through most flames, providing accurate and stable readings where other infrared temperature sensors cannot. This wavelength is also useful for measuring low temperature metals, because it is long enough to allow relatively low temperatures to be measured, and at the same time short enough to help improve the apparent emissivity value of metal surfaces.

All of the TL-TI sensors offer 2-wire 4 to 20mA outputs and have detachable leads to allow them to be easily taken out of service and swapped without the need to remove all of their associated cabling. These sensors also offer a high accuracy of 1% and a rapid response time of just 100ms.
