Introducing the CMZ Smart Drive

Available from Energy Efficient Drive Systems, the new SBD SmartDrive is ready, the result of CMZ in-house production and expression of the best Italian technology in terms of flexibility and connectivity.

The SBD servo drive for brushless motors from 800 up to 7,000 W, is available for the most popular fieldbuses -EtherCAT, PROFINET, CANopen. Matching with CMZ FCT640 controller (Codesys programmability) and I/O peripherals such as CMZ RP064 I/O, the SBD ideal for the automation of multi-axis machines, of any level of complexity.

It features an integrated PLC IEC-61131 which allows customisation of the behaviour of the drive, or for decentralisation of the system’s automation. Through integrated PLC and CANopen, the SBD SmartDrive (officially SBD/PLC) becomes the main controller of the machine for applications with a moderate number of axes and I/Os in uncomplex motions.

The CANopen network enables the number of I/Os to be expanded with remote modules such as the CMZ RP64IO, but CANopen also permits the connection to other SBD drives. The integrated PLC – featuring IEC 61131 programmability – is very powerful and allows the management of axis motion, as well as of local I/Os and other remote axes.

From the integrated PLC it is possible to access all the functions of the axis such as jog mode, absolute/relative positioning, homing function, electronic gearing and touch probe function. The integrated PLC allows the definition of functions and function blocks and the execution of code on event. The programming and the configuration, tuning and monitoring operations of the drive are carried out with the same program on a PC via thCMZ SDSetup software.

RS485 serial port, available on the drive SBD/ PLC, by Modbus RTU protocol enables the connection and HMI, enabling the SBD to become the main controller of the machine: the complete automation system can be realised without any separated controller nor a dedicated PLC.

SmartDrive SBD is future-proofed, too, thanks to Bluetooth, which opens up the connectivity and new possibilities: new tools for mobile diagnostics, non-invasive diagnostics without opening the cabinet or on carousel machines and, above all, new HMI interfaces, for a user-experience actually future-oriented.
