LED backlights offer longer life in TFT displays
Trident is introducing a new TFT LCD range from Toshiba that features long-life LED backlighting systems offering almost eight years of continuous use. The modules are designed to satisfy the requirements of a broad range of industrial applications, such as test and measuring equipment, medical equipment and portable handheld computing devices.
The range includes nine new LCD products, available in four screen sizes ranging from 5.7-10.4inch, with QVGA, VGA, SVGA and XGA resolutions. Four-wire resistive touchscreen versions are available on the 8.4 and 10.4inch displays.
All of the new LCD products feature an average backlight lifetime of 70,000 hours (to half-brightness of the initial luminance specification), which exceeds today's common TFT LCDs for industrial applications utilising long-life cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) backlighting systems.
The modules have been designed with a replaceable backlight structure to accommodate the product longevity requirements, in harsh-usage environments, of industrial applications. Toshiba has also added the LED driver circuitry into the electrical interface for the displays, which is an added benefit for customers, who can simplify their design-in time and costs.
LED backlit displays also offer sustainability benefits over older technologies, such as reduced power consumption, lighter weight, lower noise, slimmer design and wider adjustable luminance range.
To ease integration, the 8.4 and 10.4inch models are mount-compatible with existing Toshiba panels LTA084C270F, LTM08C351 series and LTA104D182F series, respectively.
