Lenze 8400 motec inverters mount on motors or panels

Lenze is adding to its family of decentralised drives with the new 8400 motec inverter with enclosure protected up to IP66 for terminal box or wall mounting. Compared to existing models, the new motec is smaller, lower cost, has more intelligence and higher performance, and offers a new way to reduce energy costs with VFCeco software. It is highly suitable for machinery that is large or modular and for cases where panel space is limited.

Lenze 8400 motec inverters mount on motors or panels

The 8400 motec initially covers powers ratings from 0.37-1.5kW, although the top end will quickly increase to 7.5kW. Mounting directly on the motor yields cost advantages by eliminating shielded motor cables, enabling smaller panel to be used, and by saving time during installation and commissioning. As part of the Lenze 8400 inverter drives platform, the motec units benefit from handling and diagnostics that are established, easy and uniform. Keypads, communications (CANopen, Profibus and ASi) and pluggable memory modules are the same. Suiting larger plant, the 8400 motec inverters have a larger, bright LED on the top surface that gives a status indication that is visible from a distance.

Cut energy consumption by 30 per cent

Another highlight of the 8400 motec is the VFCeco mode that intelligently adjusts the magnetising current in the motor to the actual load requirements. This is particularly effective in partial-load operation where three-phase AC motors have tended to be supplied with a constant magnetising current greatly above what is actually required. The result is that the VFCeco software built info the 8400 motec can yield savings of up to 30 per cent in energy consumption - which is far more than can be gained by changing to IE3 premium efficiency motors.

The new 8400 motec is a modular and adaptable drive that can be fitted to motors, to geared motors or to a nearby flat surface. A three-part construction speeds connection to the power and communication cables. The design generates cost savings for both the machine builder and the end user thanks to modular construction and innovative energy-saving software.
