Nord Drivesystems is adding an external 24V control input option to its entry-level, low-cost SK2x0E motor-mounted decentralised inverters. Previously only available on the higher-specification SK2x5E series - which also includes as standard input status LEDs, setpoint potentiometers and rectifier integrated brake control - the external control option allows the possibility for inverter parameter set-up without mains power, and control availability (including position interrogation) under power-failure conditions where a backup supply can be used.
The comprehensive and performance-graded SK2xxE inverters are mount directly on a wide choice of Nord standard or high-efficiency IE2 and IE3 rated motors and gearmotors (or are supplied as near-motor, panel-mounted drives). With power ratings from 0.25 to 7.5kW, from single- and three-phase supplies, the inverters feature advanced sensorless current vector control with a broad selection of standard and optional control and fieldbus communications features. The complete product series suits energy-optimised applications from pump and fan controls to sophisticated position-based and safety-based systems. The modular and scalable inverter enables users to select only those options that are relevant and necessary for their application, thereby keeping costs to a minimum but with the flexibility to upgrade systems in the field if required.
Entry-level built-in features include Class A line filtering, Eeprom parameter storage, brake management, encoder feedback and basic positioning control. A status and diagnostics console provides I/O status LEDs and RS232/485 communications interfacing. Version options include an AS-i interface with a 'Safe-Stop' protocol providing EN 954-1 compliant safety. More advanced features are available through direct programming or with externally-mounted control box options. Known as SimpleBox and ParameterBox, these options cover a potentiometer adapter for manual speed controls and a tactile keypad for parameter set-up and status displays.
The SK2xxE product family also includes a selection of expansion card options called Technology Boxes that extend the capability to include Profibus, CANopen and DeviceNet for direct parameter adjustment, as well as expanded machine I/O. Nord Drivesystems has also recently introduced an EtherCAT network version. A dedicated website at www.sk200e.de presents the full range of models, features and application areas in detail.
