LVDTs for applications requiring high-frequency response

RDP Electronics is promoting its Linear Variable Displacement Transformers (LVDTs) for use in measurement applications requiring a high-frequency response. This ability to respond very quickly to rapidly changing mechanical movements is required for applications such as gun recoil tests, high-speed manufacture of components and vehicle suspension measurement.

LVDTs for applications requiring high-frequency response

According to RDP, the ability to achieve a high-frequency response, combined with a long mechanical cycle life, cannot be provided by other types of displacement sensors. Those operating on digital principles may not be able to meet the response rate, while potentiometer-type transducers have limited life. LVDTs, specially unguided types, however, have an effectively infinite life as well as the ability to respond to mechanical oscillations at up to 1kHz. In order to provide digital sampling of an LVDT performing at its highest frequency, digital sampling rates of 100,000 samples per second would be considered appropriate.

Further guidance and advice regarding LVDTs for high-frequency response can be obtained from the RDP engineering support team on +44(0)1902 457512 or follow the link for general information about www.rdpe.com/uk/men-disp.htm?LVDTs.
