Machine Building, Automation & IIoT Zone at the NEC, Birmingham

Now in its seventh year and firmly established as the UK's only national sensors event, Sensors & Instrumentation returns to Hall 3 at the NEC, Birmingham on Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 September 2016. This year the event will also feature a dedicated Machine Building, Automation & IIoT Zone.

Last year's show attracted over 3000 visitors, a staggering 86 per cent of which were responsible for purchasing or influenced purchasing decisions within their organisation. And with over 100 exhibitors showcasing the latest products, technologies and systems in test, measurement and control, this year's show is set to be "even bigger and better", according to organiser Datateam Business Media.

Sika Instruments, a leading provider of reliable and precise measurement, control and calibration technology for flow, level, temperature, pressure and force, exhibited for the first time last year and is looking forward to returning to the event this September. Managing director Thomas Francis says "Supporting this niche market is a main driver for SIKA to exhibit; it provides an unrivalled opportunity for our clients to find the latest solutions along with gaining knowledge on our highly technical industry which could directly affect quality, productivity or reliability." The company is launching brand new products at the show which, says Thomas, will offer an exciting opportunity "to then discuss direct and immediate feedback."

Charcroft Electronics delivers solutions from design through to production, with a focus on the customer and any custom requirements. Commenting on the reasons for exhibiting at this year's Sensors & Instrumentation, emech products specialist Jeff Gurr says "We work closely with the manufacturers we represent and specialise in the Hi-Rel, Hi-Temp and Harsh Environment markets. This makes the Sensors & Instrumentation show a crucial event for us." Power Specialist, Chris Leek continues: "Generally, we want to make the market more aware of our sensor product range, including, pressure, tilt and temperature." As a result, Charcroft will be heavily promoting the Sensata brand of pressure sensors and switches, in addition to Fredericks' range of tilt sensors and inclinometers.

Long-time exhibitor Kistler, meanwhile, is launching several new products at the show, including: the Dual Range Torque Sensor Type 4503B with a built-in speed sensor and integral, digital measurement conditioning system; miniature ceramic shear accelerometers weighing less than 3.5g; and a new measuring flange for the KiTorq torque measuring system, available in seven measuring ranges from +/-50Nm to +/-5000Nm.

Delivering quality content

Alongside the great line-up of exhibitors showcasing the latest products and systems there will be a lively and informative seminar programme. Neil Mead, managing editor of the Industrial Division at Datateam Business Media, comments: "Whether you are a buyer, specifier, designer, engineer or technician, this wide-ranging programme will undoubtedly address key topics that impact on your working day and add value to your visit."

The main focus of the Sensors & Instrumentation seminar programme is on 'Intelligent, connected sensors and the Internet of Things', 'Sensors for BIG Data acquisition and analysis' and 'The role of sensing technology and systems in Industry 4.0.' Sessions will be presented by industry experts from companies including: Shawcity, National Instruments, Sensor Technology, Emerson, Linear Technology, B2B Compliance, Ion Science, AcSoft/GRAS, Checkit and Flir Systems.

Alex Graft, product specialist manager at Shawcity, will talk about how the gas sensor drives instrumentation development. He says: "During our seminar, we will look at which landmark developments have had the biggest impact on instrumentation over the years and where we are today in terms of monitoring technology. The latest electrochemical, pellistor catalytic bead and infrared sensor options each suit different applications, so we will examine the functionality and strengths of each type."

New for 2016 is the Machine Building, Automation & IIoT Zone. This feature area will focus heavily on current industry trends and hot topics including, the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), Cyber-Physical Systems, Big Data and Industry 4.0. It will be a showcase for the latest automation technologies and provide machine builders, system integrators and end-users alike with the information they need to better understand how these developments are likely to impact the future of manufacturing and, crucially, how they can realise the potential for increased productivity, efficiency and profitability.

Neil Mead comments: "We already have the backing and support of the International Society of Automation (ISA), who will be presenting in the Zone's dedicated seminar theatre and covering the role of automation and communication technology in the 'smart factory'."

The Innovation Showcase feature is returning for a second year; this special display area allows visitors to see the latest products and innovations and will once again be a focal point of the show.

By registering for Sensors & Instrumentation, visitors will have access to what the organisers are describing as the largest group of industrial events taking place at the same time in the NEC - including Micro Nano MEMS (which is in the same hall), TCT Live + Personalise, and The PPMA Total Show.

Register for free entry to Sensors & Instrumentation and use the same ticket to access the other shows. Visitors who stay after 3pm will also enjoy free parking. See the Register Here link at www.sensorsandinstrumentation.co.uk.
