David Collier of the Machinery Safety Alliance has written an article that dispels the myth that machine risk assessments are covered by the risk graph in EN ISO 13849-1 (or EN 954-1 as was).
The new article article introduces EN ISO 12100:2010, which is the current standard used for risk assessment and risk reduction on machines. It explains that a systematic technical Risk Assessment should be conducted and documented as required by the Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC) and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations (MHSWR 1999).
As well as outlining the risk assessment and risk reduction process, the article includes a very useful flow chart to help readers see what they need to do.
