Matmatch upgrades online materials search facility

Matmatch is launching a new advanced materials search that helps users find materials for their projects more quickly than before. The new function on the free-to-access site, which is used by more than 1.6 million engineers and product developers each year, offers design engineers an even more powerful way to identify and compare materials.

With the advanced search, engineers can browse multiple material categories at once - including metals, polymers, ceramics, composites and more. These can be sorted in ascending or descending order based on the properties selected.

Users can then directly assess the value distribution of these properties using powerful histogram data, which accompanies any search. Simply by selecting the value range via a sliding bar, they can filter the displayed materials for clearer results. Users are also able to choose between metric and imperial measurements, to better suit their project's requirements or location.

Melissa Albeck, CEO of Matmatch explains: "Matmatch is so much more than just a reliable and comprehensive search engine and database to find and source materials. Every month, around 200,000 industry visitors, including the world's leading industrial companies, use Matmatch to find and compare materials and then connect directly, and collaborate, with suppliers."

Matmatch's new features are also designed to better complement one of the site's more striking and useful existing features: the ability to use interactive visuals to compare materials and their properties.

Albeck adds: "Once you've narrowed down your selection, you can evaluate materials in more detail. Users can drill down to different material properties, compare materials side-by-side with interactive charts, and read related articles and use cases."

Matmatch was founded in late 2017 in response to its own research findings that, at the time, 80 per cent of design engineers and materials scientists started on Google when researching the properties of various materials. Matmatch now lists almost 1,500 materials suppliers along with thousands of materials, both of which are constantly growing.

Visit matmatch.com to contact suppliers from around the world quickly and easily. With the online resource, design engineers can source materials and establish partnerships with companies and suppliers to make better products.
