Measure multi-turn motion without power or contact
Analog Devices says you can now measure multi-turn motion without power or contact thanks to the ADMT4000, which it says is the world's first single chip true-power-on multi-turn position sensor.
Incumbent rotary position sensors and encoders available on the market today provide an absolute measurement range of one single turn or 360 degrees. Systems that require multiple rotations of measurement range typically incorporate bulky mechanical solutions or a backup power supply to track the motion during power off.
The new ADMT4000 from ADI is a single chip multi-turn position sensor with an absolute measurement range of 46 turns (16560 Deg) and accurate to 0.25 degrees. The company says this new sensor is set to revolutionise actuator design, eliminating the need for linear transducers, bulky reduction gearing mechanisms, or the need to continuously power the system.
The ADMT4000 significantly streamlines the actuator and drive design process, enabling a reduction in the size, weight, and cost of the final equipment.
This new product has broad market appeal and the target audience within the industrial sector includes manufacturers of industrial actuators and drives, industrial encoders, and manufacturers of industrial automation equipment including robot, cobot and humanoids.
Other markets of interest include manufacturers of automotive sensors and actuators, aerospace and defence end equipment manufacturers, and manufacturers of medical equipment such as surgical robots, scanners and dentist chairs.
