Micro-Epsilon delivers significant order for non-contact measurement systems to the Manufacturing Technology Centre in support of project work across a number of different research themes
Precision sensor manufacturer Micro-Epsilon is supplying a package of non-contact displacement measurement sensors to the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) for use on high technology manufacturing and research projects.
The order is a significant one for Micro-Epsilon and includes a variety of non-contact displacement measurement systems from the company's range, including laser optical (ILD) displacement sensors, 2D/3D laser profile (scanCONTROL 2710) sensors, eddy current displacement sensors and capacitive displacement sensors. The supply package also included a variety of integral elements and accessories such as multi-function sensor controllers, set up and configuration software, cabling and connectors.
Based in Ansty Park in Coventry, the MTC specialises in a range of manufacturing processes that are particularly relevant to the high-value manufacturing sector: net shape manufacturing; intelligent automation; advanced tooling and fixturing; high-integrity electronics manufacturing; computerised engineering (modelling and simulation); and high-integrity fabrication.
The MTC represents a 40.5 million publicly funded investment developed in response to the Government's manufacturing strategy, which sets out an ambitious new vision for high-technology manufacturing. Founder industrial members of the MTC include Aero Engine Controls, Airbus and Rolls Royce. The MTC is currently working with companies across a range of industry sectors including aerospace, automotive, rail, healthcare and ICT.
Micro-Epsilon's package of non-contact displacement measurement sensors will be used primarily by the MTC's Tooling & Fixturing division. Ken Young, Technology Director at the MTC comments: "Micro-Epsilon has provided us with an extensive range of high-quality sensing equipment, which will be able to support project work across all of our different research themes here at the MTC. The sensors will be used across a wide range of applications. They can be integrated in fixtures to monitor how the fixture changes during manufacturing and how this impacts the final product. They can also support automated manufacturing, inspection and quality control activities, as well as research programmes involved in the development of innovative processes. Micro-Epsilon has supplied both first-class products and engineering expertise, which will contribute in delivering state-of-the-art research."
Chris Jones, Managing Director at Micro-Epsilon UK comments: "We are delighted to have been selected by the MTC to supply all of its non-contact displacement measurement requirements. We are also very proud to be associated with and to provide non-contact measurement systems for this important centre of excellence in the UK. Micro-Epsilon is already very active in the aerospace, automotive and other high-tech manufacturing sectors in the UK and so we see our relationship with the MTC as a very important one both now and in the future."
