Mitsubishi opens automation facility in Scotland

The new sales office, based in Livingston, provides Mitsubishi's complete range of automation products and systems, including industrial controllers, variable speed drives, human-machine interfaces, servos, and software. It is co-located with Mitsubishi's Air Conditioning manufacturing division, which is well established in Scotland.

George Paterson, manager of the new Scotland initiative, says: "This is a great opportunity for us and our customers. Mitsubishi has been serving local industry for over 20 years, and this new office is recognition of the region's importance as a manufacturing centre. We have brought together a team with a wide experience of today's automation solutions, and are able to offer good local services and support for our customers."

Scotland's manufacturing base is diverse and includes electronics and computers, white goods, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, marine and heavy engineering. Also the rapidly developing tourism, services and financial sectors increasingly look to building automation technologies as they seek to minimise their carbon footprints.

The oil and gas sectors remain important, as they constantly upgrade to the latest technology. Marine and offshore expertise is vital for deep-water wind farms, tidal and wave energy developments. Significantly they are the bedrock from which Scotland is becoming a global leader in sustainable technologies.

Paterson adds: "The Scottish economy has tremendous potential. It has not been this strong for many years and we are seeing the emergence of some real enterprising flair amongst the business community."
