Pilz is launching new expansion modules for the PNOZmulti 2 configurable safety controller, the latest generation of the company's popular PNOZmulti that is both smaller and more expandable than the original (note that the original PNOZmulti will remain available, as it is not being replaced by the PNOZmulti 2). Modular PNOZmulti 2 systems are easily configured to perform different safety functions by using intuitive drag-and-drop software - and the latest expansion modules offer the opportunity for even greater safety functionality. PNOZmulti 2 control systems are suitable for applications up to and including SIL CL 3 and PL e.
At the heart of the PNOZmulti 2 is the compact (45mm wide) PNOZ m B0 Base Unit that features 20 safe inputs, four safe outputs (each to PL e), an illuminated LCD and six LEDs for diagnostics. To each PNOZ m B0 Base Unit can be added up to four expansion modules. The three most recent additions are:
The PNOZmulti 2 is remarkably versatile in terms of the safety monitoring and control functions that it can perform, and users are also free to choose from a variety of communications technologies; these include Profibus, CANopen, RS232, Ethernet - TCP/IP and Modbus TCP.
Safety functions are configured on a PC using the PNOZmulti Configurator v9.2, the latest version of this intuitive software tool containing a multitude of certified function blocks. Expansion modules are easy to select and configure via the PNOZmulti Configurator, all of which saves time and reduces engineering costs. Safety functions that can be configured include emergency stop switches, safety gate switches and light beam devices. In addition, the diagnostics can be customised to save yet more time during development, commissioning, troubleshooting and routine maintenance. The PNOZmulti Configurator is free to download so engineers can see for themselves how easy it is to use.
