MP85A FASTpress suits punch riveting machines' short cycle times

With the new MP85A FASTpress from HBM, the extremely short cycle times of modern punch riveting machines no longer conflict with the need to record and store process data. The MP85A FASTpress reliably evaluates and transmits process parameters to the production data server without extending cycle times. HBM also claims that the unit is the first to enable punch riveting data backups to be individually configured.

Data is stored within the MP85A FASTpress and can be transmitted via an Ethernet interface to the production data server. Component names can be transmitted individually, while specific process results or measurement curves can be selected for saving.

Punch riveting machines are typically used in the assembly of bodyshells within highly automated robot cells; the clamp position, rivet supply and monitoring of the setting process must be fully automated and extremely fast.

HBM's MP85A FASTpress uses an advanced tolerance window method to evaluate the punch riveting process. In addition to major errors, such as incorrect materials or rivets, the device can recognise defective tools by evaluating their curvature and position. Dynamic and polygonal tolerance windows are used to detect the smallest of deviations.

The MP85A FASTpress provides full monitoring of the production process instead of random testing and therefore ensures process reliability and efficiency. Two features further increase efficiency: defective parts are detected immediately (not only when the production process ends) and the MP85A FASTpress does not extend cycle times - nor does it require any additional testing steps that might result in production delays.
