North Devon Electronics, which describes itself as one of the UK's most successful bespoke coil winders and electro-mechanical assemblers offering a quality, automated manufacturing service, reports that it is continuing to attract new customers. Recent months have seen the start of production of components for new customers in defence and secure communications, high-voltage power supplies, aerospace, hearing loops, vending machines and others.
NDE can supply both high- and low-volume components for many markets including automotive, aerospace, instrumentation, industrial controls and power supplies. The use of automation guarantees high quality, consistent throughput and competitive pricing.
In-house engineering skills enable NDE to design and build bespoke automation for production cells. Where volumes are sufficient then operations such as coil winding (including bonded coils), wire stripping, soldering (dip and inductive), application of epoxy glue, vision inspection, testing, printing and packing of coils are incorporated into an automated production cell. Typically this will mean that a coil former or bobbin is fed into the start of the start of the automated system by a bowl feeder and is then processed sequentially until the coil winding and assembly is complete. The component is then placed automatically on a packing tray that carries multiple items. This tray will then be consolidated into a larger packing box with other components, ready for delivery to the customer.
Recent significant investments in machinery include several multi-spindle programmable winding machines and new test equipment that offers increased accuracy of measurement across an expanded range of frequencies.
