New air curtain and pneumatic shutter for camera enclosures

In response to the growing demand for the use of machine vision cameras in dirty environments, autoVimation is expanding its product range. Technology from the Salamander housing series has now been adapted to 3-inch windows; the resulting new air curtain (wind curtain) also provides a clear view for the larger Orca, Mammoth and Chameleon L series enclosures.

Loose dust is simply blown away with a single blast of air across the screen. Alternatively, a permanent flow of air can be used to keep the window clear of deposits or mists. The flow rate is fully adjustable between 80 and 130 l/min by means of a control valve. In applications where a high-quality image is required, the air curtain helps to prolong cleaning intervals significantly, thereby reducing downtime and maintenance costs.

Even more extreme demands occur in areas where coolants and lubricants are used. In general, however, an image only has to be captured before and after machining, for example, to verify the position of the workpiece. During the machining process, the front window may be contaminated by splashing coolant and chips, or even damaged. The solution to this problem is a pneumatically driven protective shutter, which is only opened during image acquisition. If necessary, an air curtain can be used in addition to the pneumatic shutter to create an internal overpressure and prevent splashes at the moment of opening the pneumatic shutter.
