New from item, Line XMS integrated machine concept

Machine Building Systems is introducing the item Line XMS integrated machine concept that is designed to meet the needs of machine builders assembling series machines. This will be shown for the first time in the UK at the Machine Building Show (NEC, Birmingham, 25/26 September 2013).

The three defining features of the XMS concept are:

  1. Structural aluminium extrusions that incorporate areas within the profile for specific functions, so it is easy to build modular machine frames that have a clean appearance yet are maintenance-friendly
  2. Cables and hoses are routed through integral conduits within the structural profiles; although they are normally hidden from view, they are easily accessible for maintenance
  3. XMS profiles have closed outer surfaces for ease of cleaning, and the profiles have grooves to accept special door seals

There are six areas covered by the XMS concept: structural profiles, floor elements, doors, door locks, conduit profiles and accessories (such as cover profiles, caps and screw clips).

item has developed the XMS concept such that the machine is divided into three main section. At the bottom is the supply section containing cable and hose connections, motors, pumps and power supplies. In the centre is the process section where the machine performs its production, assembly, inspection and test routines; guards and doors are provided as necessary to provide for process visibility, operator/maintenance access, and to provide physical protection and noise attenuation. At the top of the machine is a control systems section for control systems, air supply, lighting and fans/filtration/extraction.

XMS profiles are based on the item Line X. Fastening elements and accessories from the Line 8 series can be used to add to the XMS frame as required. The main profiles of the XMS range have sufficient space to enable switch panels to be installed on the outer surface. In addition to the space within the profiles that is available for cabling and hoses, plastic Conduit Profile K can be clipped to Line 8 grooves or screwed to other surfaces.
