Tyco Electronics is introducing an Industrial Mini I/O connector system featuring two points of contact to maintain performance and increase reliability in high-vibration environments. The compact connector, approximately one-quarter the size of a traditional RJ-45 plug, includes a latching system that is designed to protect the plug from pull-out during high vibration or collision.
James Gula, the product manager at Tyco Electronics, comments: "Our new product meets the stringent demands of industrial devices. The rigid latching system and multiple contact points significantly reduce the risk of information loss in high-vibration environments. The connector system is an excellent replacement for existing RJ-45 technology; it occupies significantly less space while offering increased functionality."
The polarised wire-to-board interface features two keying options to prevent mismating and consists of eight individual circuits to accommodate I/O signals. Electrical specifications include a current rating of 0.5A and a 30V rating on 0.635mm centreline spacing. The connector's operating temperature ranges from -40 to +70degC and durability is 1500 cycles. Both SMT and through-hole configurations are available.
The connectors - which are suitable for industrial controllers, PLCs, motion control and robotics in the industrial automation market - meet Cat5e requirements when used in Ethernet applications.
