In a new workshop announced for Machine Building North, Festo sales manager Andy Parker-Bates will address the question of how you select the optimal motor technology for your application. Join Andy for his workshop presentation at Machine Building North on 10 April 2025 at the Concorde Centre in Manchester.
In machine building, various types of motors are used, including servo motors, stepper motors and DC motors, each with their own strengths. However, new motor control developments are opening the possibility of using certain motor types beyond their traditional application areas.
In a workshop aimed at providing information for electrical, software and automation design engineers who want to know more about the available motor technologies, Andy will explain the different options and compare their respective abilities. He will also review which motor types are the best fit for different applications. The aim is to help machine builders make informed choices for future motion control applications.
Andy says: "We will also challenge the traditional way motors are implemented in positioning tasks, and expand the scope of what is possible with motion control with regard to performance, cost and energy efficiency."
Along with the technology overview, Andy will explore possibilities with full-servo drives based on stepper motor technology, and look at opportunities with integrated cabinet-free servo drives.
