Next level strain wave gears

Nabtesco Precision Europe's zero backlash strain wave gears (manufactured by Ovalo in Limburg/Lahn) offer maximum precision, outstanding performance and cost-efficiency. With extensive customisation and integration options, the modular product system is available in the UK from R.A. Rodriguez (UK).

In addition to zero backlash and impressive repeatability, these strain wave gears require no maintenance throughout their entire service life. With a compact and lightweight design, the range offers up to 15% higher torque capacity than conventional strain wave gears.

Custom designed strain wave gears

All strain wave gears from Nabtesco can be customised to meet the particular application requirements of the customer. This means that customisations in terms of performance, geometry, material, and interfaces, including functional, component and system integration are possible. The strain wave gears are based on a flexible, modular design, with a large selection of sizes, materials and additional components, such as motors, bearings, shafts, seals, housings, sensors, brakes and ECUs.

Gear properties, such as backdriving torque, overload capacity, transmission precision, main bearing, efficiency, weight and inertia, can also be customised. As a result, the strain wave gears can be adapted to the design of the machine or robot it is being used in.

Nabtesco strain wave gears are used in robotics (both industrial robots and cobots), testing and measuring equipment, machine tool construction, medical machinery, the semiconductor industry and active exoskeletons. Manufactured in modern, automotive-compliant production (certification to IATF 16949), high product quality, short development times and gapless traceability are guaranteed.

Smart digital strain wave gears

The range also includes a sensor-based strain wave gear with the same dimensions of a standard gear unit. For the digital strain wave gears, a sensor measures torque, temperature, and vibration, and this data is analysed in the integrated electronic evaluation unit (EEU). This enables considerable benefits such as condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, overload detection, calculation of the actual service life and error analysis.

With the strain wave gear technology, Nabtesco expands the torque range from 4.5 to 70,000 Nm, which offers a high degree of scalability. This means suitable high-precision gear solutions can be provided for virtually any axis or application - from very small systems to extremely large ones. This is unique and not available anywhere else on the market.

The zero-backlash strain wave gears are available in several formats: Gear Sets, Gear Sets Plus (with an integrated rigid output shaft bearing) and Gear Units (ready-to-use, plug-and-play solutions). All units are offered in Hat type (HTG) and cup type (CTG) designs, with hollow shaft or solid shaft options. The portfolio is further complemented by actuators (complete systems with solid and hollow shaft), providing fully integrated solutions for a wide range of applications.
