NI names finalists for 2012 Graphical System Design Awards

A panel of experts judged the submissions and chose to recognise the following innovative applications within the field of measurement and control:

Transportation

• Thales UK Tests London's Underground Rail Network With CompactRIO and LabVIEW by Anthony Afonso, Thales UK
• Feedback Control for Road Vehicle Drag Reduction Using Pulsating Jets by Georgios Rigas, Imperial College London

Advanced Control

• Creating a Continuously Running Advanced Seal-Testing Rig Using NI CompactRIO and NI LabVIEW by David Maidman, Scitek Consultants Ltd
• Control of a Hydraulic Motion Compensated Gangway to Improve Access for Offshore Wind Turbines by Andrew Clegg, Industrial Systems and Control Ltd

Energy

• Using LabVIEW and NI DAQ Hardware to Prototype Tidal Stream Turbines for Power Generation by Pascal Galloway, Sustainable Energy Research Group, University of Southampton
• A Green Energy Solution for use in Remote Locations and Developing Nations by Dr Mike Rendall, Diverse Energy Ltd

Life Sciences

• Using LabVIEW and PXI to Gain a Better Understanding of Injuries Sustained in Battlefield Explosions by Nicolas Newell, Imperial College London
• Improving Ultrasonic Tumour Therapy With Passive Acoustic Detection by Christian Coviello, Institute of Biomedical Engineering, University of Oxford

Test/Manufacturing Test

• LabVIEW Balances the nEXT Generation of Turbo Molecular Pumps by Gerard Johns, Edwards
• Creating an Endurance Testing Solution for Motor and Gearbox Lifetime Qualification Using CompactRIO by Richard Thomas, Product Technology Partners Ltd

Winners will be announced at an Awards Ceremony at Savoy Place, the London home of The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on Monday 19 November 2012 in the presence of Dr James Truchard, President, CEO and Co-founder of National Instruments.

Finalists and winners will also be congratulated at the NIDays Conference and Exhibition, held at The Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, Westminster, London, the following day, 20 November. Added to this, a number of finalists will present their innovative solutions and remarkable achievements in NIDays sessions.
