Non-contact torque sensors cost the same as slip ring types

Kistler Instruments is launching the Type 4520A contactless, low-maintenance torque sensor as the latest addition to its range of cost-effective sensors for manufacturing, production and quality assurance applications. The Type 4520A torque sensor costs around the same as slip-ring types, typically less than 1500. However, using non-contact signal transmission eliminates wear, making the new sensor exceptionally robust and maintenance-free, even in continuous use.

Ten models are available, with rated torques from 1 to 1000Nm, each with class 0.5 accuracy at speeds of up to 10,000rpm. Output is +/-10V plus a speed signal of 60pulses/rev and a remotely switchable 100 per cent test function.

Kistler says its new torque sensors are suitable for static and dynamic torque measurement in production, quality control and research and development applications.
