NORD receives the MHEA Sustainability Award

NORD DRIVESYSTEMS has received the MHEA Sustainability Award 2025. Presented by the Materials Handling Engineers Association, the award recognised NORD ECO, a service that helps system operators evaluate the energy consumption, utilisation and efficiency improvement potential of drive systems based on real operating data.

NORD receives the MHEA Sustainability Award

Rising energy costs, stricter regulatory requirements and ambitious climate targets are increasing the pressure on system operators to analyse existing systems more thoroughly and consider investing in energy-efficiency measures.

The MHEA is an industry association representing specialist companies in the bulk materials handling sector. With the Sustainability Award, the MHEA recognises companies and solutions that contribute to sustainability, energy efficiency and decarbonisation in the sector. "The award highlights the growing importance of traceable operating data in industrial applications," emphasises Jorg Niermann, Head of Marketing at NORD DRIVESYSTEMS. "We are very pleased to receive this award. It confirms our approach of using real operating data to evaluate energy efficiency both technically and economically."

The NORD ECO service

With the NORD ECO service, NORD offers an analysis tool that evaluates the energy consumption and utilisation of existing drive systems based on defined measurement data. The service can be used for drive systems from various manufacturers, provided the technical requirements are met.

The central component is the ECO box, a mobile control cabinet with an integrated energy measuring device. It measures voltage and current and uses this data to calculate energy consumption. Data is collected continuously over an individually defined period, with a minimum duration of two weeks. On this basis, load profiles, load peaks and anomalies in operation can be identified.

Building on this, optimisation strategies for operation and design can be developed, for example to identify oversized drives or to assess possible adjustments to the system design. In suitable applications, the use of NORD IE5+ synchronous motors may be an option.

Finally, NORD proposes possible measures to optimise performance, reduce the number of variants or improve energy efficiency. If, following the analysis, a customer opts for a drive solution from the manufacturer, another measurement is carried out after a defined period of operation. This allows operating data from before and after the implementation of the measures to be compared over a specified period.
