Nova Design assists with upgrades to The London Eye

Nova Design has been selected as a partner for The Merlin Entertainments 12.5m capsule upgrade of the London Eye, which is described as Britain's most popular paid-for visitor attraction. Starting in 2009, the London Eye's 32 capsules are being taken off one at a time to be refurbished in time for the 2012 London Olympics.

A number of upgrades will be incorporated, including a minor visual facelift. Additionally, one capsule will be equipped with an enhanced multimedia system, providing Wi-Fi capabilities, music and on-screen visual displays via four ceiling-mounted screens.

All capsules are also being upgraded to a more energy-efficient, environmentally-friendly heating and ventilation system, to which Nova is contributing its expertise.

As part of the refurbishment, Nova supported UK Loco in the design of handling equipment during the overhaul. Nova was also selected as a partner for the non-operational capsule that will be in place while each capsule is sent away to be upgraded. The London Eye celebrated its 10th Birthday in 2010 and has welcomed over 38.5million people since opening in 2000.
