The strapline of MachineBuilding.South is "all the answers in one day". And that's no idle boast; it's an event where you can get different viewpoints on specific issues, uncover new ideas for your business, discover new products and services, evaluate a range of different solutions, and keep yourself ahead of the curve.
And there is no shortage of technologies to see: the exhibitors estimate that, between them, they'll have over 1,000 new products on their stands for machine builders and systems integrators to discover and discuss on the day, with many of them being shown in the UK for the very first time.
That's crucial because today, more than ever, machine builders face the challenge not simply of keeping up with trends, but with helping to shape those trends or innovating with them if they are to keep being successful. And there is no substitute for face-to-face conversations with like-minded professionals, sharing ideas and experiences, and exploring industry challenges together.
In recent years, IO-Link has risen to the fore as a key networking technology, and you'll find a host of IO-Link products on show at the event from a host of different suppliers. As an example, Murrelektronik(stand 67) has recently introduced pure.IO, a very cost-effective solution that expands its IO-Link system. Murrelektronik's IO-Link system is compatible with devices from multiple manufacturers, can be used worldwide and in new machines as well as for retrofitting existing systems.
Another interesting connectivity product is EBFxxx range from ifm (stand 11) - a passive splitter with ecolink Fast Connect technology. Designed to enhance efficiency and reliability, it could transform the way sensors and actuators connect to central controllers in industrial environments, ensuring seamless integration into industrial automation systems. Its compact design and standardised M12 connectors enable fast, error-free installation directly on machines or systems.
Industrial security is another key focus at the show, and with this in mind IXON (stand 18) has launched the SecureEdge IX5xxx series, a new line of edge gateways designed with cybersecurity as a core principle and compliant with IEC 6244342. These devices provide secure, reliable connectivity for industrial machinery, combining remote access, firewall, and data logging in a single compact unit. The gateways feature a security-focused operating system, SecureBoot, TPM technology, and global connectivity via Wi-Fi 5 and eSIM, enabling rapid deployment anywhere.
A key focus for Beckhoff (stand 100) is its MX-System - a modular, pluggable automation platform that replaces the traditional control cabinet. Integrating IPC, I/O, drive technology and system components into a robust baseplate, the MX-System mounts directly onto the machine frame. For machine builders, this reduces panel build time, simplifies installation and supports modular machine concepts.
It's true, too, that manufacturers need to get the maximum return on their investment, and that means machines that will run and run. Reich Drive Systems (stand 12) is the UK agent for Golden Precision Products, a manufacturer of transmission and electromagnetic brake and clutch plates. With over 7,000 plate drawings in the portfolio, Reich can undoubtedly supply the spares you need to refurbish your existing drives. Old, obsolete parts are not a problem either as plates can be produced to drawing or sample. Reich has an extensive database of OEM part numbers to help us identify and supply the correct plate spares.
