Panel building service provides benefits for machine builders

Lenze is promoting its Systems Division, which provides a design, build and project management service for machine control panels. This particularly suits machine builders who have insufficient expertise or lack resources for their current workload. Advantages to the machine builder are easier management of projects and the potential for reduced costs. Services available include project evaluation, software and panel design, plus commissioning where requested.

Panel building service provides benefits for machine builders

Case experience at the Systems Division demonstrates that customer workload decreases and projects run faster. This can be attributed to the single point of contact appointed for all contracts. A close relationship with one-to-one communication speeds projects, particularly at commissioning. Here the single point of responsibility means that all necessary resources are available when they are needed.

The benefit of easier projects need not come with higher costs. The Systems Division has access to the whole Lenze portfolio of drives and automation equipment - and no second margins are applied to the drives and automation components. Panels are built to order when they are needed or are even built for stock. At this stage no invoice is raised, unlike the case where the machine builder has to buy in the often costly panel components. A Systems Division invoice is raised only at the point of delivery, which improves the customer's cash flow.

Typical panel and systems projects are in the converting, printing, processing and machine tool industries,as the following examples demonstrate:

  • A large panel with 13 axes of mixed servo and inverter drives is supplied for a printing machine.
  • Stainless steel panels and consoles are supplied for food processing machinery.
  • Small motor control panels with frequency inverters are supplied for lathes.

Preferred automation equipment includes Lenze IPCs, PLCs and touch screen visualisation products. Motion control can be integrated or standalone units. All the common fieldbuses are available, including real-time EtherCAT, Profinet and Ethernet Powerlink. Bespoke software can be written, although most machine motion functions can easily be created using Lenze FAST software templates. Servo axes are possible up to 60kW and inverter axes from 0.25 to 375kW.

Working in partnership with machine building customers, the Lenze Systems Division is able to make communication easier, projects run faster and often reduce costs. Panels and their components are covered with a two-year warranty and service support is available from the Lenze Group worldwide.
