Parvalux and EMD offer product design service to OEMs

Leveraging the combined engineering, application and product development expertise brought together by the recent transfer of EMD personnel to the company's main site in Bournemouth, Parvalux is launching a new product design service aimed at the volume OEM market.

Parvalux and EMD offer product design service to OEMs

The new service covers:

  • Bespoke sub-1kW motor-gearbox units
  • Replacement unit designs
  • Sub-assembly designs

Although Parvalux already has a good reputation for its value-add product modification service, which enables buyers of even small quantities to specify any number of customisations to their chosen product, this new offer enables customers requiring higher volumes to also consider a totally bespoke product - often at no extra cost.

OEM customers who require in excess of 5000 units per year are invited to specify their precise mechanical, electrical, environmental or aesthetic requirements. For example, the following criteria can be specified: size, shape, weight, enclosure, construction, insulation, noise, efficiency, lifetime, price per unit, colour, power, torque, speed control and material.

The service itself includes: end-to-end project management; cost-benefit analysis; 3D CAD modelling; finite element analysis (FEA); Mathcad analysis; Failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA); rapid prototyping; and rigorous performance and application testing. Representatives from Parvalux's production, design, supply-chain, quality and sales departments support every stage to ensure that the process is continually validated by a breadth of expertise and knowledge.

Parvalux's Technical Director, Paul Adams, comments "In our view, what should make this service particularly attractive to customers is our design team's credentials. As well as copious amounts of experience in new product design and innovation, among the fourteen strong team you will find:

  • One Doctorate (PhD in Biomechanics)
  • Two chartered mechanical engineers
  • One member of the IET
  • Four postgraduate masters: (one MBA, one MEng in electrical and electronic engineering, one MSc in engineering design and one MSc in new product development)
  • Undergraduate qualifications including BEng degrees in mechanical design, engineering, mechanical engineering and engineering design visualisation, a BSc in engineering CAD, a BSc in computer-aided product design and an HNC in electrical engineering
  • Numerous vocational qualifications

"So if you are looking for a highly skilled, highly qualified and highly experienced design team as your application technology partner, you need look no further."
