PFA-lined stainless steel diaphragm valves resist corrosion

Burkert is introducing a new range of PFA-lined stainless steel diaphragm valves for use with aggressive chemicals. These are the latest additions to the company's BBS range of stainless steel products for hygienic processing applications in food, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.

The PFA liner integrated into the new diaphragm valves is a fluoropolymer that offers users the benefits of similar chemical resistance to PTFE against most aggressive chemicals and acids, but with much lower levels of porosity. It is also tolerant of higher temperatures, with the capability for operation up to 260degC.

Burkert says the new diaphragm valves complement its existing BBS range of sterile ancillary piping, flanges, connectors, indicators, sampling systems and vessel equipment. They are claimed to "provide a unique synergy with Burkert's valve, sensor, process control, hazardous area and specialist products" - which enables the company to go further down the systems route in providing customised hygienic processing systems to the high-tech pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors.

In these demanding sectors, where compactness, smart communications, plant footprints, cleaning and sterilisation, dead legs, cross-contamination, and validation are everyday concerns, the Burkert BBS products deliver higher process efficiency and higher yields through process modularity.

Simple integration

Where Burkert links all parts of the production process via its valve process control and fieldbus products, BBS links them all mechanically, with sterile weld unions, quick connects, flanges, fittings, hoses and pipes. In addition, to provide complete processing systems, these products are complemented by ranges of special valves, sampling systems, flow indicators and heat exchangers.

From the control room to the downstream processing area, through to the plant's utilities services, the scope of systems and components from Burkert/BBS covers all the different application environments in hygienic processing. This combination is effective and efficient in each application, while working harmoniously to provide reliable plants.
