PPMA seminar: CE marking of robot cells

When a robot is added to a machining centre or an injection moulding machine, thereby creating a new robot cell, the whole becomes a complex assembly of machinery and should be CE marked in accordance with the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. It is not enough to assume that each machine is CE marked; other hazards are created that the integrator should assess and control.

All too often this does not happen and the end-user has the responsibility for ensuring the system is safe. The PPMA can help integrators and end-users with the practical aspects of CE marking and is pleased to be able to deliver a seminar for companies using, purchasing, designing and manufacturing machines incorporating industrial robots.

The seminar discusses some of the issues regarding CE marking of complex assemblies and the requirements of the various standards including EN ISO 10218-2:2011, Robots and robotic devices - Safety requirements for industrial robots - Part 2: Robot systems and integration.

Areas covered in the seminar include the legal requirements and responsibilities, risk assessment, documentation requirements and functional safety.
