Process control system with 64-bit processor technology

B&R is now offering APROL 3.2, an innovative process control system of the newest generation that supports 64-bit processing. It's possible to select between the 32-bit or 64-bit versions of the Novell open SUSE 10.2 operating system, so you get the best of both worlds. To make it easier for those who are still undecided, APROL also allows mixed operation, i.e. a 64-bit control computer can be used in an APROL R 3.2 system together with 32-bit operator stations.

Process control system with 64-bit processor technology

The use of 64-bit systems with the new processor generation makes it possible to achieve higher performance for large, complex process control systems in the future. It is possible to implement the new 64-bit technology without added costs because the APROL PCS control computers that carry out server tasks in mid-sized and large systems generally are equipped with 64-bit processors ("Xeon" processors), and standard computers can now also use 64-bit "P4" processors.

Because of the possibility for mixed operation, systems that often use robust B&R APC620 industrial computers (32-bit) can also use 64-bit processing in other areas. If the control computers (engineering server, runtime server) use 64-bit processing, then the operator stations can be configured to use either 32-bit or 64-bit processing.

With this new feature (32/64-bit capability in APROL R3.2), B&R fulfils the requirements of several important customers and positions itself at the forefront of process control system manufacturers.
