Procter named Preferred Provider of guarding by insurer QBE

Procter Machine Guarding has been named by QBE, the business insurance specialist, as a Preferred Provider of machine guarding. QBE policyholders can therefore benefit from advice on machine guarding issues, and Procter Machine Guarding can also help policyholders to improve any guarding that falls short of current requirements.

QBE policyholders are entitled to free Machine Guarding Compliance Surveys in which a Procter safety engineer visits the policyholder's premises and assesses the safeguards. Any areas of non-compliance are highlighted in a short written report, and actions are recommended so that the policyholder can reduce risk, improve safety and comply with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER).

If required, the policyholder can subsequently invite Procter Machine Guarding to undertake any remedial guarding work, or Procter can put the policyholder in touch with other machinery safety specialists. Procter Machine Guarding is renowned for its compliant yet cost-effective guarding. Furthermore, as a Preferred Provider of Machine Guarding, the company's safety engineers can also assist QBE policyholders in creating prioritised plans for carrying out the necessary improvements in a series of phases as part of their risk management process.

Procter Machine Guarding operates from premises in Leeds and South Wales, providing a full range of services covering machine surveys, design, fabrication and installation of guards throughout the UK. Perimeter guards are either configured using modular components from an extensive range, or custom-designed and manufactured. For workshop machine tools such as lathes, milling machines and pillar drills, standard guarding products are available on short deliveries. If custom machine guards are needed, these are designed to comply with all applicable EC and HSE requirements. In line with the European Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and its UK implementation, the Supply of Machinery (Safety) (Amendment) Regulations 2011, the guards are issued with a Declaration of Conformity and are CE marked as appropriate.

Over the last ten years, Procter Machine Guarding has developed a wide variety of machinery safety guides and resources to educate the market and support users and designers of machinery. QBE policyholders can access these documents and software-based tools, and will be encouraged to visit the Procter Machine Guarding website and register for the email newsletter that carries up-to-date information about machinery safety standards and regulations. In addition, the newsletter presents articles covering wide-ranging topics including the business case for machine guarding and the important role that machine guards play in ensuring safety during plant maintenance.
