Renold Gears is launching an innovative new range of compact escalator drives as an option for installation in restricted spaces. This is an increasingly important factor as the spaces for external escalator drives get smaller, or disappear altogether, and where the product is often to install the drive internally in the upper truss.
The new WH Series escalator drives are approximately half the height and weight of a comparable, traditional unit and meet the demands of escalator manufacturers, and engineers, in the heavy-duty mass transit sector, where there are space restrictions for the escalator's drive system.
They have been designed with a horizontal motor and gear arrangement to reduce the height of the units and permit in-truss installations for space-saving internally driven systems. They are also narrow enough to enable double drive configurations where required.
These drives combine the benefits of worm and helical gearing with an efficient, low noise, two-stage worm/helical reduction. They have been designed for reliable operation with long maintenance intervals, and features that make the units simple and easy to service when maintenance is required.
Renold's new WH Series units meet LUL, APTA, and NYCTA specifications and have been designed for heavy-duty mass transit applications such as at busy underground stations with high traffic flow. More information about the WH Series escalator drives can be found at www.renold.com.
