Retex UK: electronic cases and enclosures

When Chronos Technology discovered that the enclosure it had used for a design prototype was no longer available from the original supplier, the alternative it was offered did not meet all the requirements. Instead the company contacted the original manufacturer and found that it could source the products direct. Retex manufactures many of the best known electronic case and enclosure designs, all of which are available direct from Retex UK.

Retex UK: electronic cases and enclosures

Established in 1986 by Prof. Charles Curry, Chronos is a world leader in timing and GPS technology, as well as the originator of SENTINEL - an international project to research and establish the extent to which Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) may be compromised and how best to protect them. Through the results of the SENTINEL project it has developed some of the world's most sophisticated GPS-jamming detector technology, able to pinpoint the location of jamming equipment down to an individual car in a large car park.

Using this technology, Chronos developed a prototype hand-held detector for use in the field by law enforcement agencies to prevent serious crime and protect organisations who use the GPS (Sat Nav) signals for mission/safety-critical applications. An enclosure was specified that matched all of the design requirements of the product. It featured an ergonomic, curved design with rubberised corners for robust protection against knocks and accidental drops and recessed cover, base, front and rear panels which allowed for a control display and carry handles to be installed. Unfortunately, once the product was ready to be launched, the component supplier no longer stocked the enclosure type.

Ian Smith, Product Manager for Chronos, comments: "Having worked the prototype through the development stages we were ready to begin production. Unfortunately the original suppliers we had worked with no longer held the necessary enclosure product in stock. We were offered an alternative but found that the new product didn't meet the strict demands of the project. We began looking for the original manufacturer online and quickly found the Retex UK website and recognised the Series 33 enclosure as the one that we wanted."

The Series 33 hand held enclosure has been available on the UK market for some time, though it was marketed under a different name. It is just one of a range of well-known enclosure designs from Retex that are now available direct from the manufacturer via Retex UK. The Retex UK sales team is highly trained to answer all specification questions and advise on the most suitable product for a given application. If you suspect that you have previously specified Retex enclosures then get in touch to learn how you can access the entire range.

Ian continues: "Ordering direct form the manufacturer gives us peace of mind that there won't be any future availability issues, as we are ordering straight from the production line. Stock is held in the UK which keeps our delivery time low, and we know that we have the support of the entire manufacturing team if it's required."
