Schaeffler UK has become a supporting partner of Centrepoint, the UK’s leading homelessness charity for young people. As well as making a donation to the charity, Schaeffler UK will support a number of Centrepoint fundraising events and campaigns, and will offer its own employees the opportunity to work with the charity as volunteers.
Schaeffler UK made the decision to support Centrepoint because the UK is facing a national crisis with thousands of homeless young people at risk from violence and exploitation on the streets. According to Centrepoint, on average, one young person in the UK faces homelessness every four minutes.
By partnering with Centrepoint, Schaeffler UK wants to help provide homeless young people with a warm, safe room where they have the stability and security they need to begin a new life, as well as access to counselling, health support, practical advice and the skills they need to find a job or support them into education.
Greig Littlefair, managing director of Schaeffler UK emphasises: “At Schaeffler UK, we are passionate about helping to improve the communities in which we work. As a responsible business, we feel it is our duty to try and support disadvantaged people in any way that we can. We chose to support Centrepoint, as we believe our donation can help to make a real and meaningful difference to the lives of homeless young people in the UK.”
Abby Clyndes, senior new business manager at Centrepoint comments: “We are delighted that Schaeffler UK has chosen to support Centrepoint. Their support will help desperately in need young people leave homelessness behind for good. Ultimately, we want to end youth homelessness and we can’t achieve this without the support of companies like Schaeffler UK.”
Life changing support
Alongside its partners, Centrepoint supports more than 16,000 young people every year and is campaigning to end youth homelessness by 2037. The charity works with partners in schools to identify 11-16 year olds who are at hidden risk of homelessness. As well as providing accommodation, mental health support, training and employment, Centrepoint also campaigns to influence national and local government policy. The overall goal is to prepare homeless young people to live independently when the time is right.
