Siemens Congleton shows its driving force

Stage all set to take advanced new Sinamics G115D drive system to the global market

Siemens Congleton shows its driving force

The Siemens Sinamics G115D drive is specifically designed for horizontal conveyor applications compatible with the MindConnect portfolio, enabling cloud-based analysis.

The drive system comprises motor, frequency converter and gearbox in one unit and is offered in two versions – wall-mounted and motor-mounted, with many design variations for the customer to choose from in the online configurator to suit conveyor requirements.

“It is a proud moment for us at Siemens Congleton, as the inverter is made here and we have put together a system in which we can ready the product for delivery in just 15 working days,” says Rob Matthews, SCM lead, Siemens Congleton. “If the customer orders a motor mount version, the inverter is made here, and then shipped to our sister factories in the Czech Republic or Germany to be married with the gearbox and the motor.”

The Sinamics G115D drive system is said to be characterised by a robust design with a high IP protection class (up to IP66) and is therefore also suitable for use in harsh environments. “Thanks to its compact dimensions, the Sinamics G115D can be installed easily, even in confined areas,” states the company. “The drive system can also be operated reliably over a wide temperature range of -30 to 55 degrees Celsius.”

It is available in the power ranges 0.37 to 7.5 kilowatts for wall mounting and 0.37 to 4 kilowatts for motor mounting.

The drive system can be put into operation quickly and easily with comprehensive integration into the TIA (Totally Integrated Automation) portal, including Startdrive commissioning software or the Sinamics G120 Smart Access Module (SAM) web server tool for set-up and diagnostics.

To be prepared for digital transformation and to enable cloud-based analyses, Sinamics G115D is integrated into the entire MindConnect portfolio and is compatible with Mindsphere applications, such as Analyze MyDrives.

Courtesy of Profisafe, the Sinamics G115D has ‘safety integrated’, in the form of STO (Safe Torque Off) SIL2, which standardises and facilitates the certification process. For flexibility in terms of installation, service and maintenance, the solution is equipped with a plug-in connector and flexible connection possibilities. The device is described as particularly suitable for interaction with Simatic controllers, such as the Simatic S7-1200 or Simatic ET200 for motion control.
