Siemens launches new Flender Motox geared motors

Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) is showing the new Flender Motox series of geared motors at the 2007 Hannover trade fair. These are based on the 1LA7/1LG4/1LG6 motors from Siemens. Depending on the requirements, there are also energy-saving or explosion-proof versions, and models are available certified for the American, European and Asian markets.

Siemens launches new Flender Motox geared motors

The geared motors can be supplied with helical, parallel-shaft and bevel helical gears for the power range up to 200kW and a rated gear torque of up to 20,000Nm. Versions with helical worm gears have an output up to 11kW and 1590Nm, and motors with worm gears up to 1.5kW and 166Nm.

The Flender Motox series of geared motors unifies the previously independent SGM series from Siemens and the Motox-N series from Flender. The Flender Motox series is characterised by a broad spectrum of motors, with the basic motors being Siemens IEC motors of the type 1LA7/1LG4/1LG6.

Modulog principle

To enable direct mounting of the motor on the gearbox, the interface on the drive side has been adapted, though the electrical parts of the motor remain identical. Using the Modulog principle (in which the modular and logical structure of the motor are optimised), functional units such as the brake, external fan and encoder are built onto a skeleton motor that always remains the same. This is done with the help of mounting shafts, so the motor can be fitted with additional functional units even after installation.

The standard motors conform with the relevant IEC/EN standards. For export to the NAFTA markets, it is possible to select from motors with NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association) specification, UL (Underwriters Laboratories) certification and CSA (Canadian Standard Association) approval. For export to China, CCC-certified motors are available on request.

Depending on the requirements, energy-saving versions can also be supplied, with certification for the EU in accordance with CEMEP (European Committee of Manufacturers of Electrical Machines and Power Electronics) as well as for the North American market in accordance with EPACT (Energy Policy Act), which is part of US federal law. For operation in areas where there is a risk of explosion, geared motors are available for zones 1 and 2 (gas) as well as 21 and 22 (dust), in accordance with the EU directive 94/9/EG.

Adaptable

The gear units can be combined in many different ways due to the modular building-block system and can therefore be adapted to the respective application. The dimensions of the gear units are identical to those of the previous Motox-N and SGM series. It is possible to select from a variety of gear types, namely helical, straight, bevel helical and worm gears. The geared motors with helical, parallel-shaft and bevel helical gears have an output of up to 200kW with a rated gear torque of 20,000Nm.

Versions with helical worm gears have outputs up to 11 kW at 1590Nm and motors with worm gears have an output of up to 1.5kW at 166Nm. Optional drive groups enable mounting of standard IEC, NEMA and servo motors. Moreover, the gear units are available with a free drive shaft or as a piggy-back version. Selection of the geared motors is facilitated by an electronic catalogue which contains all the technical data as well as CAD drawings.
