Spelsberg Abox junction boxes for machine builders

Abox junction boxes from industrial enclosure specialist Spelsberg have been designed for machine builders to enable fast, simple installation.

“Optional, plug-in terminals provide tool-free assembly and the raised terminal blocks enhance ease of wiring,” states Spelsberg. “Durable construction gives strong resistance to impact and ingress, while a range of sizes offers flexibility and a compact footprint.”

The Abox range features slots that enable flexible internal or external mounting to provide space and convenience when wiring, with insulating plugs that seal openings and prevent parasitic voltage. While the Abox-m version also features an interlocking rear section that makes easier placement in installation, the standard Abox cover is quickly sealed with two cross-head screws. To ensure compact footprint, enclosures in the Abox range are available in dimensions from 80 x 80 x 52mm up to 640 x 320 x 179mm.

High-mounted, screwless terminal clamp

Internal to the enclosure, Abox is available with a high-mounted, screwless terminal clamp for push-fit installation. Four or five-pole terminal blocks are raised up to 6mm with the additional height providing greater space for wiring. They can also receive cable screw glands and provide resistance to machine vibration, and an enclosure option with a main cable junction terminal is also available. Each Abox unit also features knock-outs, typically two per side, to enhance ease and flexibility of wiring.

Cable entry holes feature soft elastic material that enables easy cable installation but also upholds ingress protection. The durable enclosures, constructed from high-strength polycarbonate, provide up to IP65 rating, making them dust tight and able to protect internals from water jets. The enclosures also provide up to IK08 impact resistance, one of the highest industrial standards. This also makes the Abox-i models from the Abox range suitable for machinery intended for outdoor installation.

Protection and Standards

Abox junction boxes are rated up to 690 V AC, providing Protection Class II and meet the stringent German VDE standard. The enclosures are also tested to provide protection in maximum ambient temperatures up to 80 °C, down to as low as -35 °C.

As machine build requirements are often bespoke, including predetermined position of the electrical circuitry and junctions, customisation can be important to achieve the optimum design, particularly for cable routing. Spelsberg UK provides rapid, on-site customised design and CNC machining, and is able to develop tailored enclosures to suit the need of machine and application.

To suit high-volume machine build, the UK facility also holds high stock volume and can despatch orders, including customised designs, within five working days.
