Sulzer's UK Coil Shop recently attended the Large Electric Motor Users Group (LEMUG) meeting and workshop, which was held in January. The event, which is held biannually, aims to bring together manufacturers and end users of large electric motors to exchange ideas and discuss the issues related to Nuclear Maintenance Applications of their equipment.
In all, over 70 companies were represented, either as users or as vendors, including Sulzer, formerly Dowding & Mills, who shared their expertise in the requirements for maintenance and repair of large motors with a number of end users. As one of the largest independent repair specialists in the world, Sulzer's designers and engineers are highly regarded as a valuable source of knowledge that can be applied to innovative products.
As a high-voltage coil supplier, Sulzer is able to design high-specification coils for the most demanding applications. Several companies were interested in the results from a recent rewind and submergence test of a 1750HP, 4kV machine with coils that had been supplied by Sulzer. Using the latest hybrid vacuum pressure impregnation (VPI) system designed for VR 74041 epoxy resin, Sulzer has successfully completed these tests and other end users were interested in using similar coils.
John Lazarski, Business Development Manager for Sulzer in North America, comments: "The presentations and technical discussions have been well attended, offering the delegates a range of useful insights. In addition, customers were very keen to learn more about Sulzer's coil manufacturing capabilities, especially for specific coil insulation applications as applied to the nuclear services industry.
Overall, this has been a very productive event for us and it has highlighted several opportunities where Sulzer can offer its wide range of expertise and we are looking forward to the next conference."
