Sulzer restructure: investment in high-voltage coil production
Sulzer has recently announced a corporate restructuring process, creating a new service division as part of a strategic move to focus the company's activities in three market sectors: oil and gas, power and water. Integrating all services for rotating equipment into one service division has resulted in a leading role for the company's high-voltage coil production facility based at the Birmingham Service Centre, in the UK.
Responsible for producing the copper coils for a vast array of large new and remanufactured rotating machines, the high-voltage coil production team at Sulzer's Birmingham Service Centre has produced diamond coils and bars for applications as varied as new gas powered generators driven by gas turbine engines, through to the refurbishment of the famous hydro-electric plant at the Roosevelt Dam. The re-structure has already seen 1million worth of investment in the coil business, which is set to play a key role in the worldwide development of Sulzer.
The new company structure was unveiled by the Executive Committee at Sulzer's recent annual Capital Market Day for investors and analysts held in Zurich. The overall strategy was presented in detail, which included the new organisational structure and business strategies for the three divisions. Changes in the organisational structure are effective from 1 January 2014.
As a provider of services for rotating equipment, Sulzer combines the services for turbines, compressors, motors, and generators previously provided by Sulzer Turbo Services, with the services for pumps, previously provided by Sulzer Pumps. With sales of approximately Euro 647 million (pro forma 2012), the service division has around 100 service locations worldwide.
