Surge protection for the busbar with integrated voltage pick-off

The new FLT-SEC-ZP2--SV combined lightning current and surge arrester from Phoenix Contact is said to set new standards in the protection of meter panels. The low overall width of the surge protection leaves plenty of space for the other components mounted on the busbar.

The integrated voltage pick-off for supplying the devices of an intelligent measuring system such as a smart meter gateway (SMGW) significantly simplifies setup. Only type 1 surge protective devices (SPDs) with spark gaps are permitted in the main power supply system upstream of the meter. In addition, these SPDs must not cause a continuous operating current due to status indicators, such as LEDs. The spark gap must limit the follow current that occurs after ignition so that the service fuses do not trip.

With its purely mechanical status indicator without operating current and its spark gaps without line follow current, the FLT-SEC-ZP2 meets the stringent requirements of VDE-AR-N 4100 for the use of type 1 SPDs in the main power supply system. As a type 1+2+3 combined lightning current and surge arrester, it protects even sensitive electronics in the immediate installation environment.

A secure power supply from the non-measured area must be provided for the components of an intelligent measuring system. The FLT-SEC-ZP2...-SV includes two load pick-offs for connecting cables to the RfZ (space for additional applications) and the APZ (termination point meter location). The new FLT-SEC-ZP2--SV protective devices are available in four versions, each designed for the TN-S/TT and TN-C supply system configurations and with a peak current value Iimp of 7.5 kA or 12.5 kA.
