TDK-Lambda unveils new products at Southern Electronics 2011

Understanding the application and the environment in which it operates is essential for good power supply design; at this year's Southern Electronics & Manufacturing Show, TDK-Lambda UK will launch many new and innovative products that address the specific needs of the industrial, factory automation, test and measurement, medical, broadcast and telecoms markets.

Among the many power supplies to be highlighted during the show is the GWS series of 'green' power supplies that comply with the energy-saving requirements of Energy Star and the ErP (Energy related Products) Directive by having a standby power consumption that remains below 0.5W. Rated at 250W, the GWS250 AC-DC power supply is offered in four models with nominal output 12V, 24V, 36V and 48V. With a compact footprint and 1U height, this supply is a convection-cooled units that fits into space previously requiring fan-cooled products. Since the GWS250 has no fan it is well-suited for applications requiring low noise levels, or in equipment where long life would be a critical design factor for applications such as those found in remote or dusty environments. The efficiency curve for the GWS250 is very flat, averaging 93 per cent from 25 to 100 per cent load, which ensures optimum operation under all load conditions.

With the introduction of the ZWS-BAF series of PCB-type AC-DC power supplies, TDK-Lambda has effectively improved the total performance of its previous generation ZWS-AF series. The improved heat dissipation of the new ZWS-BAF series provides a wider operating temperature range of -10 to +70degC and efficiency of the ZWS150BAF-24 model reaches up to 90 per cent. Offering advanced features such as active power factor correction (PFC) and high input transient protection, the 100W ZWS100BAF and 150W ZWS150BAF series operate from a universal input of 85-265V AC or 120-370V DC to meet a wide range of applications, including factory automation, test and measurement, and LED signage. Offered with a choice of output voltages from 3.3-48V, each model in the ZWS-BAF series can be adjusted by up to +/-10 per cent of its nominal voltage to accommodate non-standard system voltages.

More power!

Upping the output power of its ZPSA series of compact PCB-mountable AC-DC power supplies, TDK-Lambda's ZPSA100 accepts a wide input voltage range, has a very low profile (26.6mm) and industry-standard footprint (127 x 76.2mm). A good choice for applications such as LED signage and lighting, point-of-sale equipment, datacom, video/audio routers, and test and measurement equipment, these 100W supplies are available with the most popular single output voltages from 5-48V DC. Offering a typical efficiency of up to 90 per cent, these models are well-suited to operation in both convection or customer air-cooled environments from 0 up to 70degC, with appropriate derating.

Throughout the exhibition, experts from TDK-Lambda UK will be on hand to provide advice and guidance on selecting power supplies, with the emphasis on combining efficiency with versatility and durability.
