Textile machinery upgraded with all-in-one PLC and HMI units
A Turkish textile plant has upgraded its machinery using Unitronics V130-33-TR20 integrated PLC and HMI devices, selecting these for their compactness, all-in one technology, price, excellent technical support and easy communication with SCADA software.
Turkmenistan Asgabat Dokuma Toplumu (TDT), is an integrated Turkish textile plant that manufactures home products such as bed linens and towels from yarn fibre. The company needed to calculate the efficiency of both its staff and machinery via a compact PLC with Ethernet capabilities. TDT's needs were met by Unitronics, ILGISOFT* and Yorum, a Unitronics distributor in Turkey.
The yarn, which is received in coils, is treated first in a warp machine. Then it is processed by additional starch-based chemicals in TDT's sizing machines. This process strengthens the yarn in preparation for weaving. The beams coming out of the sizing machine are fixed on each of the weaving machines.
A Unitronics V130-33-TR20 integrated PLC and HMI is mounted on each weaving machine, and these enable the production staff to follow the process as the raw yarn becomes cloth. At that stage, the the following data is available:
- Instantaneous speed of the machine
- Alarms when the machine stops due to yarn breakage
- In addition, machine operators can manually enter into the HMI: the name of the operator in charge of the machine; the production order for which the machine is working; and alarms for machine stops (accepts automatic failure signals)
At the conclusion of all of the above mentioned events, management can receive the following reports:
- An outline and shift efficiency report for the production section
- A daily efficiency report for each shift machine
- Machine-based outline failure report
- A report indicating the total number of yarn breakages and the machine stop times due to yarn breakage
- Operator-based efficiency report
All machines are monitored by a central SCADA system. Any station that is experiencing an error is highlighted on the main screen in red. This visible indication makes it apparent that there is a station down.
