Torsion springs provide axial power and control

When axial rotation requires control, the perfect solution is a torsion spring from Lee Spring. These compactly wound springs look like a common compression spring placed on a post or inside a cylinder but are activated by radial force applied to the end legs.

Torsion springs provide axial power and control

The most common applications involve the need for preloading to act as a counterweight, for example on the doors of a car or in garages. Other typical applications are in clothespins, clipboards, blinds, counterbalance mechanisms, ratcheting keys and different types of machine components.

They are also used in hinges, counterweight applications and return levers; in couplings between concentric shafts, such as those of motors and pumps. Many electronic devices use small torsion springs to provide delicate operation in devices that have pop-up covers such as various players, cameras, instrumentation, etc.

Lee Spring now offers a total of seven angle types of torsion springs which are available in all standard stock sizes. Options are available in both left and right winding directions, which also makes it easy to use in pairs to provide balanced force at each point, ensuring the returning piece sits properly. They are available in platinum-plated music wire and passivated stainless steel.

The ends on torsion springs can be bent, twisted, hooked or looped to suit project needs available in 90, 120, 180, 210, 270, 300 and 360 free leg position options. The engineers at Lee Spring are also ready to assist you with custom options for leg styles including straight twist, offset straight, hinge and hook.

Miniature torsion springs are also available with outside diameters from 2.62mm, to large units up to 50mm. All are backed by a wide variety of Lee Spring catalogue springs, which helps to ensure availability of the part you need, when you need it.
