Tyco Electronics is introducing its new 40Gb/s Quad Data Rate (QDR) speed Paralight cable assemblies in a Quad Small Form-factor Pluggable (QSFP) connector format. This new cable assembly can run up to 100m, although longer lengths may be possible and are being evaluated.
Dennis Hess, business development director, comments: "As QDR speeds become a larger segment of the market, active optical Paralight cable assemblies become increasingly economically viable for both intra- and inter-cabinet links. In addition, the much smaller and lighter optical cable becomes more of a necessity in terms of lower weight and size to accommodate increases in air flow needs, and effective routing of significant numbers of cables in clustered systems."
Tyco Electronics has already demonstrated market viability with volume deployment of Double Data Rate (DDR) 20Gb/s speed QSFP and CX4 optical assemblies. Tyco Electronics was one of the first to have DDR assemblies approved by the InfiniBand Trade Association (IBTA) to run at 100m.
Hess adds: "Tyco Electronics is committed to maintaining a position of industry leadership with the introduction of the 40Gb/s QSFP Paralight optical cable assemblies. We believe we are the first to introduce assemblies that are both cost effective and available in volume."
