Windform SP, a new polyamide-based carbon-filled material

CRP Technology is launching a new state-of-the-art material in the field of polyamide-based materials: the Windform SP, suitable for use in a variety of applications. Windform SP is a composite polyamide-based carbon-filled material with a deep black colour and excellent mechanical properties, and is described as a top-level material within polyamide Windform materials for 3D Printing and additive manufacturing.

The material has the advantage of increased resistance to shocks, vibrations and deformations, and shows increases in impact strength and elongation at break. Moreover the Windform SP retains its excellent thermal properties and resistance to high temperature.

On an aesthetic level, Windform SP enhances the black colour. This aesthetic factor makes it particularly suitable for design applications. The material enjoys waterproof properties and therefore has resistance to absorption of liquids and moisture. Moreover, this new material is also suitable for creating reliable prototypes, and is well suited for functional applications in motor sports, automotive (for example, for components under the hood, such as intake manifolds), Air (UAV, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle components) and aerospace design, since it allows fully functional applications as well as dyno tests, track tests and development of pre-series parts. The new Windform SP is now available for the production of parts and can also be purchased directly in the powder form.

CRP Technology also offer a professional metallisation and painting service for Windform prototypes. The metallisation and painting create an impressive effect, and are necessary for products which need to be aesthetically pleasing. The goal is to have a product with the performance of Windform materials which is also aesthetically pleasing.

Applications for metallisation on Windform materials are numerous:

  • for the automotive industry, parabolic headlights, external components (radiator grilles, door handles, rear view mirrors, window frames) , internal components (door handles, air vent frames, gear stick frames, and moldings in general)
  • components for the lighting industry (parabolas and reflector lamps)
  • industrial design, from household accessories and furnishing (cutlery, door handles), to telephones (mobile phone covers and keypads) and fashion (jewellery and costume jewellery)

Standard production times are approximately 4 working days in addition to the time it takes to assemble the prototypes.

Regarding the painting service, CRP Technology has a suction bench to provide painted prototypes of a medium size (500×500mm) for presentations, product launches, exhibitions and assembly testing in general. If requested by the client and depending on the RAL colour, CRP Technology is able to deliver the prototypes already painted, depending on the available RAL colours. There are many potential applications, from industrial design to consumer products, for example children's toys and in general all items produced which have an aesthetic function.
