Wireless condition monitoring system is quick to install

SKF is launching a wireless condition monitoring system designed to improve machine reliability, reduce installation costs and increase the safety of personnel in industrial applications. The SKF Wireless Monitoring System V/T can be used where cabling is impractical, offering a fast and simple way to collect and analyse detailed machine performance data.

The compact device can be mounted permanently onto equipment and its eight input channels collect data over an existing wireless network. Acceleration, velocity, temperature and bearing condition data can be uploaded automatically for viewing and analysis in the SKF Machine Suite. In addition to the safety and convenience benefits of using wireless technology, potential cost savings are also achievable thanks to simple and fast installation.

SKF says the wireless condition monitoring system is suitable for use with machines that are inaccessible, difficult or dangerous to reach, or in instances where hardwiring is not possible such as applications with moving components or those in hazardous environments. Furthermore, the rugged device is excellent for machines that are frequently moved around or are between sites such as temporary installations.

The software system can be installed and ready to use in three simple steps, thus reducing installation times and costs. SKF's Wireless Configuration Utility is used to configure the hardware to talk to the wireless network. Access points, alarm parameters and other data points can then be designed and set up using the SKF Wireless Database Builder and subsequently, data are automatically uploaded to the SKF Machine Suite for viewing, analysis and reporting.

SKF offers its Wireless Monitoring System V/T as a turnkey product or as part of a service contract, depending on the specific requirements of the application.
